Zelbová, Judita ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on how the side effects of vaccination against covid-19 were presented by media during the pandemic. The aim was to find out how the side effects were reported by Czech national television stations in their evening news programmes, what were the differences in presentation between the stations and which experts were invited to comment on the topic. The thesis primarily uses qualitative content analysis and to a lesser degree quantitative content analysis. The thesis shows that three of the four TV stations studied (ČT1, Nova and Prima) approached the presentation of the topic in a very similar way conceptually, TV Barrandov being quite different in this respect. All TV stations presented side effects on the basis of substantiated data, with an emphasis on information obtained from relevant organisations (European Medicines Agency, Czech State Institute for Drug Control) and experts (mostly epidemiologists, immunologists and physicians of various specialties). Contrary to the expectation, the coverage of the side-effects proved to be relatively marginal and only became notable in the spring of 2021, when a larger number of adverse reactions occurred with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The sub-objectives of the thesis were to find out how much attention was given to individual candidates by the TV stations examined in this study, whether the journalists' speeches separated facts (news information) from opinions (commentaries) and, finally, whether the journalists' speeches did not contain explicit evaluations. For this purpose, a quantitative content analysis of six episodes of the main news broadcasts broadcasted during the three-week period before the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic held in the autumn of 2021 was used. Specifically, I selected three episodes of Události broadcast by Czech Television and three episodes of Hlavní zprávy CNN Prima NEWS. Graphic elements in news programs of Czech television channels
Novotný, Jan ; Podzimek, Jan (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the form of graphic elements in the main news programs of the most-watched Czech stations. Using visual analysis tools, it explores how digitally generated headlines, bars, jingles, infographics, and other elements contribute to the effective communication of daily news. It also aims to find out how much the appearance of tv graphics differs between the programs. The semiotic analysis, which combines the approach of multimodal social semiotics and the concept of distinctive features, reveals that Czech television stations often use the same visual communication tools, therefore the graphic processing of elements in individual programs is remarkably similar in some regards. On the other hand, in connection with the recent visual rebranding of some of the programs, there are also frequent attempts of the programs to differentiate themselves and to avoid clichés in the appearance of the news. Because of that, discussion outlines the potential advantages and disadvantages of both of these approaches.
